Andrew Simpson and Prof. Alan Pert co-founded Parallel Practice in 2016. Parallel Practice connects academics and academic research with architectural practice and ‘Design Projects’. The Practice has been established to implement architectural, urban design and landscape projects from the position of research. Parallel Practice is not competing with practice; instead it seeks partnerships with practice, industry and academia. Parallel Practice as such provides a vehicle for cross-disciplinary working, potentially connecting disparate research centres and exploring the potential of research-based design. It acts both as a ‘seed-bed’ for the development of new fields of research and a vehicle for research application.
